An Italic agricultural earth-mother later merged with Greek Gaia.
A sober, agrarian provider honoured for harvests and the safety of the soil.
The Fordicidia — pregnant cows offered for the fertility of the fields.
Earth as farm, boundary and fatherland.
Syncretism Analysis
Gaia is a cosmic and vengeful mother-force; Roman Tellus is a practical farmland deity whose rites concerned crops and property lines, not cosmogony. Rome kept the fertility and discarded the rebellion.
